Girlfriend Bite, also known as Girlfriend Biting or Girlfriend Biting Boyfriend's Arm, is an axiom commonly referenced in memes about girlfriends biting their boyfriends to show love and affection via cute aggression, however, it usually ends up hurting the boyfriend. Memes that referenced the cliché appeared on TikTok, Twitter and Instagram in the early 2020s with the most commonly referenced body part being the arm.
Origin
On July 15th, 2020, TikToker[1] shittyalcoholic posted a video about biting her girlfriend's arm, earning roughly 4,700 plays and 1,100 likes over the course of two years (shown below). This is the first viral reference of a girlfriend biting in a memetic context besides a few tweets[2][3] posted in early 2020 that received minimal engagement.

Spread
Continuing into 2020, more TikTokers referenced girlfriends biting arms. For instance, on October 6th, 2020, TikToker[4] nate.aka.nasty posted a video in which he humorously exposed his girlfriend while she was lying with him and biting him. Over the course of two years, the video received roughly 25,000 plays and 3,800 likes (shown below, left). On November 11th, 2020, TikToker[5] cjtooicy posted a video about his girlfriend being unable to fight the urge to bite him when bored. The TikTok received roughly 718,500 plays and 171,000 likes in two years (shown below, right).

On February 8th, 2021, TikToker[6] og_2tone_ posted a video about his girlfriend biting his arm, earning roughly 1 million plays and 41,700 likes in a year and a half. On May 21st, 2021, TikToker[7] torijett earned roughly 1.5 million plays and 268,400 likes in one year for a video about his girlfriend biting.
On April 17th, 2021, Twitter[8] user kyedae tweeted, "This is a question for all girlfriends. Do you guys ever get this RAGING urge to bite your boyfriend? Cause I do…." earning roughly 15,100 likes in one year (shown below).
Continuing into 2022, the reference cemented itself further in memes on TikTok, Instagram and Twitter. For instance, on March 16th, 2022, the Instagram[9] page wholesomeversse reposted a meme made by the since-deleted Instagram page slutgummy, earning roughly 12,600 likes in five months (shown below, left). On April 20th, 2022, the Instagram[10] page wholesomemeemes_ reposted a meme made by the since-deleted Instagram account swaagg3r, earning roughly 5,800 likes in one four months (shown below, right).
