Glass Bottle Rolling Down Stairs ASMR or Bottle Roll ASMR refers to an ASMR trend in which users film a glass bottle or jar rolling down a set of stairs, often until it breaks. Versions of the trend first appeared on TikTok as early as June 2021 when user @MrBottles began posting videos rolling plastic bottles down stairs, becoming popularized on the app throughout 2023 with glass bottles.
Origin
The earliest known TikToker[1] to film videos rolling bottles down sets of stairs is @mrbottles, who uploaded their first video to the app on June 1st, 2021. In his videos, MrBottles rolls an empty, plastic Coca-Cola bottle down a set of stairs. On May 13th, 2022, TikToker[2] @lilloalencarr posted a video rolling a glass jar down a set of stairs, garnering over 897,000 views in a year (shown below). This is the earliest known video doing so.

The TikToker continued to post videos doing this over the following months, with most of his content becoming dedicated to bottle roll ASMR videos. On May 19th, he uploaded a video to TikTok[3] that gained over 8 million views in a year (shown below, left). On June 1st, he uploaded a bottle video to TikTok[4] that gained over 4 million views in the same rough span of time (shown below, right).

The trend spread throughout 2022, gaining significant popularity in mid-2023. On May 24th, 2023, TikToker[5] @mrgarr4fa began uploading bottle roll ASMR videos, with his first upload garnering over 6.5 million views in a month (shown below). On June 5th, YouTuber[6] Tiktoker… posted a compilation of the trend, garnering over 30,000 views in three weeks.

On June 6th, Twitter[7] user @la5ty tweeted, "Sometimes it just is suddenly 3am and you’re watching someone roll different types of glass bottles down concrete steps to see which one will break on TikTok," garnering over 130 likes in three weeks. On June 13th, TikToker[8] @brun0fernandez posted a video rolling a bottle full of balls down stairs, garnering over 13 million views in two weeks (shown below).

On June 27th, Twitter[9] user @jbfan911 posted, "Please don’t text me I’m watching videos of glass bottles rolling down the stairs," garnering over 164,000 likes in two days (shown below). On June 29th, Mashable[10] published an article on the trend.
On June 28th, TikToker[11] @asmr_pote posted a video rolling several bottles down the stairs that gained over 11 million views in a day (shown below).
