About
Go Ahead, Get In, Since Your Ass Wanna Act refers to a catchphrase originally used to debase those acting haughty that was later repurposed for the absurd and ironic memes. Gaining popularity online in early 2019, the catchphrase maintained popularity in ironic meme communities in the following year, often reduced to Go Ahead, X snowclone.
Origin
Prior to January 7th, 2014, an unknown user created a reaction image macro of an empty shoebox captioned "Go Ahead Get In Since Your Ass Wanna Act Brand New." On January 7th, 2014, We Heart It[1] user @niikii_bae90 reposted the image to the site, where it received 219 hearts in four years (shown below). On Twitter and other websites, the image was circulated as a reaction to those acting haughty and superior.
On July 3rd, 2018, Tumblr[2] user sexhaver posted a recaption version of the image reading "Go Ahead Get In Since Your Ass Wanna Act Pair A Shoes." The post received over 28,800 likes and reblogs in two years (shown below).
Spread
In the following months, the image was widely circulated on Twitter and other websites. For example, on July 3rd, 2018, Twitter[3] user @banditVEVO reposted the image.
The format did not see further spread until on January 30th, 2019, Tumblr user lovingrot posted "*sits in a pan with olive oil and caramelizes*", with Tumblr user lovingrot commenting with an image of a frying pan captioned "Go Ahead Get In Since Your Ass Wanna Act Pair Onions." lovingrots' post accumulated over 134,300 likes and reblogs in one year.
On February 5th, 2019, Tumblr[4] user themysteriousmurasamecastle posted a crudely reedited version of the image captioned "Go Ahead Get In Since Your Ass Wanna Act Pair A medic" (shown below, left). The post received over 6,800 likes and reblogs in one year and inspired similar edits from other Tumblr users, including versions by aliendic[5] and tuesdaey[6] posted on February 6th (shown below, center and right).
On February 8th, Tumblr[7] user sexhaver, the author of the "Pair A Shoes" edit, created a master post in which he reposted nine versions of the meme. The post received over 5,300 likes and reblogs in one year.
In the following weeks, more versions of the meme were posted by users on Tumblr, Instagram and iFunny. For example, on February 11th, 2019, iFunny[8] user VERSACEiCE uploaded a Clown version of the meme which received 40 smiles in one year (shown below, left). On March 5th, 2019, another version of the meme was posted by Instagram[9] user dodecahedron.lad, gaining over 1,700 likes in one year (shown below, right).
After a number of memes following the format were posted in /r/okbuddyretard, the format gained traction in the community, particularly as Go Ahead, X Ass and Go Ahead, X snowclones. For an August 28th, 2019, Minecraft meme posted by Redditor[10] JZZ31 received over 3,900 upvotes (shown below, left). An October 31st, 2019, meme by Redditor[11] DirectResturant4 received over 6,300 upvotes in four months.
