Go, Do a Crime refers to an image of a person giving a handgun to a raccoon captioned, "Go, do a crime." The image was posted to Twitter in 2021 and became an exploitable redraw format over the following months, depicting an unknown person giving a gun to a well-known character.

Origin

On September 5th, 2021, Twitter^[1] user @sweetraccoons posted an image of an off-camera person giving a gun to a raccoon, captioned with a text banner, "Go, do a crime" (shown below, left). The post gained over 211,000 likes and 35,000 retweets in a year. The meme gained viral spread over the following days. On September 8th, Minecraft streamer Tommyinnit posted a screenshot of a Discord conversation to Twitter^[2] with Wilbur Soot where Soot sends him the image, garnering over 289,000 likes and 8,300 retweets in a year (shown below, right).

On September 15th, Twitter^[3] user @willump posted a redraw of the meme replacing the raccoon with Neco Arc, garnering over 4,000 likes and 1,400 retweets in a year (shown below). This is the first known redraw of the meme.

Spread

On November 26th, 2021, Twitter^[4] user @raccoonhourly reposted the original meme, garnering over 197,000 likes and 30,000 retweets in 11 months. On April 8th, 2022, Facebook^[5] page Otaku For Life posted a redraw replacing the raccoon with Gawr Gura, garnering over 1,300 shares and 3,300 reactions in six months (shown below, left). On August 23rd, Twitter^[6] user @todosmeIapelan posted a version using the Sonic Frontiers character Sage, garnering over 600 likes in two months (shown below, right).

On September 19th, Twitter^[7] user @pan14_sub posted a redraw replacing the raccoon with Rebecca from Edgerunners, garnering over 4,000 likes in a month (shown below).
