Hammock On The Bus or Hammock Guy refers to a viral video of a man in Utah arguing with a bus driver because he is hanging in a hammock on the bus. On May 12th, 2024, TikTok[1] user @scottykash uploaded a video of an interaction that took place somewhere in Utah between a passenger who refused to take down his hammock and the bus driver. The man starts to spin the hammock while he argues with the driver, saying, "Show me the 'no hammock' sign." The moment (shown below) amassed over 60 million plays and 9.5 million likes in two days.

Dubbed the "Hammock Guy" by many online, he quickly became a viral topic on social media as several meme pages shared the video, sparking a debate about the authenticity of the moment.

For instance, on May 13th, 2024, X[2] user @WilliamSch23860 commented on the video posted by @DiabolicalSpuds, saying, "I’m on the hammock guys side here. He went through all that trouble setting it up and no one said anything." The tweet (seen below, top) received roughly 1,700 likes and 17 reposts in a day. On May 12th, X[3] user @TriangleCyclops said the video feels fake, but they wanted it to "be real" (seen below, bottom), which amassed more than 1,100 likes in two days.

On May 12th, X[4] user @_lizharvey reposted the Hammock Guy video, captioning it "maybe I'm a born diplomat or maybe I'm insane but everyone here has some valid points imo." The post (seen below) garnered over 128,000 likes and 7,500 reposts in two days.

The video was also reposted to numerous subreddits in mid-May 2024, including the /r/HolUp[5] subreddit, where it received over 18,000 upvotes and 550 comments in a day.
