Herta Drinking Milk refers to redraws of a piece of fan art of the character Herta from Honkai Star Rail drinking a box of milk with an empty stare. It is popularly paired with snowclones from people expressing distaste for things.

Origin

On July 1st, 2023, Miyoushe^[1] user MEIYAcc uploaded fan art of Herta drinking with the caption, "If there is such a plot, I, the Water God, will be full of life" (roughly translated). The post received 31 likes and 1 favorite (shown below).

On January 4th, 2024, Facebook^[2] user Fery Altovera uploaded the image to comment on Henggar – Pad's^[3] post about a cigarette brand that costs less than 1 US dollar per pack using a Dramatic Crossroads edit, indicating that he dislikes people who smoke. The comment received more than 19,000 likes and 19,000 replies in three days (shown below).

Fery's comment grew popular with edits about his comment triggering the smokers. For example, on January 7th, 2024, Facebook^[4] user Brian Stellaron uploaded an edit reenacting it using Honkai Star Rail characters with Chipi Chipi Chapa Chapa song. The video received more than 1,800 reactions and 2,300 shares in two days (shown below, left). On the same day, Facebook^[5] user Kana Momo uploaded a similar edit with the Hardbass song. The video received more than 3,900 reactions and 3,800 shares in two days (shown below, right).

The Herta fan art also grew popular with many redraws and snowclones referencing Fery's comment. For example, on January 7th, 2024, Facebook^[6] user Yaannzz ID uploaded a photo of himself mimicking Herta with the caption translated as "Why I really hate Israel" referencing the 2023 Hamas vs. Israel conflict. The post received more than 1,100 reactions and 600 shares in two days (shown below, left). On the next day, the Indonesian webcomic "GHOSTY's Comic trough" Facebook^[7] page uploaded fan art of their original character with the caption translated as "Why I really hate people who debt (but don't want to pay off)". The post received more than 5,200 reactions and 800 shares in one day (shown below, right).
