About

Homer Climbing Through A Window refers to a frame of Homer Simpson from The Simpsons entering the house of Ned Flanders through a window. The frame from the animated series saw some use in memes in the mid-2010s before inspiring a surge of exploitable edits depicting Homer climbing into various stills from pop culture in June 2024.

Origin

The frame comes from season 5, episode 16 of The Simpsons, titled "Homer Loves Flanders," which first aired on March 17th, 1994.[1][2] It depicts Homer climbing into the house of Ned Flanders through a window (shown below).

One of the earliest known instances of the frame being singled out on social media was in an August 8th, 2014, post by Redditor MichaelB37 in /r/TheSimpsons,[3] gaining over 50 points in 10 years.

Spread

The image saw some use in memes over the following decade. One edit that made Homer cross-eyed and had him wearing a cowboy hat was used for some image macro memes in the mid-2010s. For example, such an edit was posted to Imgur[4] on May 6th, 2016, by an anonymous user (shown below, left).

On January 2nd, 2021, user Kris Mahony of the Facebook page Ireland Simpsons Fans[5] captioned the image "Me going into 2021 knowing Fergie is still so 3008 while I'm just 2000 and late," gaining over 2,400 reactions in three years (shown below, right).

On June 21st, 2024, the Twitter / X account @CriminalSimpsons[6] posted the original frame, gaining over 1,100 retweets and 10,000 likes in a week. The post inspired many users to post edits of the frame showing Homer climbing into various scenes from pop culture.

For example, on June 23rd, 2024, Twitter user @TristanACooper[7] posted an edit of The Ring with the image of Homer, gaining over 1,700 retweets and 14,000 likes in four days (shown below, left). On June 24th, Twitter user @Neillbert[8] posted an edit putting Homer into a frame from Alien, gaining over 870 retweets and 9,600 likes in three days (shown below, right).
