About
Hot People Who Eat Croissants Are Dangerous refers to a reaction video in which the catchphrase is generated like a winning combination in a slot machine, used to react to posts that barely make any sense at first glance, similar to the Jesse, What Are You Talking About meme. Based on a viral post by musician Phoebe Bridgers, the reaction video has been used on X / Twitter since February 2021.
Origin
On February 20th, 2021, musician Phoebe Bridgers (@phoebe_bridgers wrote on X[1] / Twitter, "hot people who eat croissants are dangerous." The post (shown below) garnered over 3,900 reposts and 64,000 likes prior to removal.
On February 21st, X[2] user @scotchfields posted a video in which Bridger's post was generated like a winning combination in a slot machine, with confetti flying out. The video, since removed, garnered over 7,400 reposts and 73,000 likes prior to deletion (reupload[3] shown below).

Spread
The video has since achieved virality as a reaction. On March 30th and May 23rd, 2021, the X[3][4] accounts @poppersboomclap and @acervomp4 archived the video; these and other reuploads have since been used by other users.
While the exact instance the video has been used as a reaction is unknown, on March 26th, 2022, X[5] user @mezthegoz made the earliest notable use of it, quoting a post by @mitskileaks[6] reading "mitski makes music for gay people who play legend of zelda." The quote post (shown below) garnered over 1,300 reposts and 6,800 likes in two years.
In addition to use as a reaction video, the edit also inspired parodies. For example, on February 13th, 2024, X[7] user @dingusports posted a One Piece edit of the meme (shown below).
