I Am a X From Y and This Is My Z, also known as I Am From X and This Is My Y, refers to a phrasal template used in memes and jokes about nationality stereotypes, usually to identify perceivably bad or cringy content and artwork that's in a style or tone stereotypically associated with one country or people. The snowclone stems from the I'm an Artist From Israel and This Is My Art meme, which comes from a TikTok video posted by an Israeli artist showing their paintings that many internet users thought were bad and vapid. Memes about the video used the artwork as an example to generalize all Israeli art and culture. The original catchphrase mutated into the phrasal template on social media platforms like Twitter / X, extending to other countries like the Philippines, India and the United States, among others, and to other disciplines like video games and memes.

Origin

On January 5th, 2024, Israeli artist Albert Levi posted a video to his TikTok^[1] account @albertart that had text overlay reading, "I'm an artist from Israel and this is my art 🤍🇮🇱💙." Levi is first seen in military attire and then seen in his studio showing the viewer his paintings, including a blue horse, a sports car, a lion, a parrot and a woman screaming and smiling. In a year, the video received over 16,700 likes (shown below).

Levi's post seemingly stems from a viral thread of quote-tweets from early October 2023, which focused on artists from many countries sharing their art and using the snowclone "I am an artist from X and this is my art."

The earliest known quote-tweet in the chain was shared by X^[5] user @laufaria on October 1st, 2023, gaining over 263,700 views and 1,500 likes in two years (shown below). The user quote-tweeted a since-deleted tweet from X^[6] user @Bitaemm.

On the next day, October 2nd, X^[7] user @Kaparetti quote-tweeted @laufaria, and other X^[8][9] users followed the chain with many of the posts receiving upwards of 1 million views.

Spread

On January 10th, 2024, X^[2] user @wramented posted two screenshots of Albert Levi's video, showing the painting of the sports car with paint splatter. Over seven months, the post gained roughly 28,000 likes (shown below).

In the following weeks and months, the screenshot of Albert Levi holding his canvas became an exploitable in posts on X.^[3]

Use of the catchphrase "I'm an artist from Israel and this is my art" also surfaced soon after, like in a tweet from X^[4] user @joethecuban011 on July 24th, 2024, who used the phrase to caption fan art of Fiona and Shrek. The tweet received over 10,000 likes in a year (shown below).

On March 30th, 2025, X^[10] user @roader5495 quote-tweeted a "White Pride" and Hyperborea animation with cute anime girls, captioning it, "I am an obese Mexican working in a sweatshop and this is my art❤️." Over four months, the video received over 9,300 likes (shown below).

On July 2nd, X^[11] user @oppenheimered quote-tweeted a photo of a Dubai Chocolate and Labubu product, akin to the Labubu Matcha Dubai Chocolate meme, captioning it, "I am a chocolatier from Israel and this is my creation." The post gained over 37,000 likes in three weeks (shown below).

On July 27th, 2025, X^[12] user @realasfspudboy quote-tweeted a Wojak Comic with political messaging, captioning it, "I am a ten-year-old from America and this is my art." Over three days, the post gained over 18,000 likes (shown below).
