Ich Bin Ein Heidelberger is a series of brainrot memes based on a scene from the sitcom Young Sheldon in which Sheldon Cooper (played by actor Iain Armitage) visits Heidelberg, Germany, takes a bite of a pretzel and declares, "Ich bin ein Heidelberger," meaning, "I am a Heidelberger." The scene originates from season seven, episode one of Young Sheldon.

It first became the subject of brainrot edits and memes in early April 2026 on TikTok, in which the clip is edited with various filters and strung together in a collage with other prominent brainrot clips and memes. In late April 2026, Iain Armitage, the actor who plays Young Sheldon, posted videos playing into the meme.

Origin

In Young Sheldon season seven, episode one, titled "Half a Wiener Schnitzel and Underwear in a Tree," Sheldon, while in Heidelberg, Germany, eats a pretzel. He takes a bite and calls it "the best pretzel" he's ever had. He then declares, "Ich bin ein Heidelberger," meaning, "I am a Heidelberger," and the people around him cheer. The episode aired on February 15th, 2024.^[1]

On April 7th, 2026, TikToker^[2] @gregley55 posted a brainrot edit based around the scene, combining it with other brainrot videos like the Evan Burger meme, which gained over 3.3 million views in a month. This is the earliest known version of the meme.

The Ich Bin Ein Heidelberger scene continued to inspire brainrot memes throughout April and May 2026 on both TikTok and Instagram Reels, with some spread to sites like X / Twitter.

On April 11th, 2026, X^[3] user @nemutaru_ reposted the original brainrot edit by @gregley55, garnering over 1,300 likes in a month.

On April 17th, Instagram^[4] user colethehammer_ posted a similar brainrot edit that gained over 26,000 likes in three weeks.

On April 18th, Instagram^[5] user poopygorillaface posted a meme based on the scene that shows "Ich Bin Ein Heidelberger" vs. "Evil Ich Bin Ein Heidelberger," garnering over 1,400 likes in three weeks. It was also posted to their TikTok^[6] page, gaining over 460,000 views in the same span of time.

On April 24th, 2026, TikToker^[7] @nickle1928 posted a video of Sheldon's actor, Iain Armitage, saying, "Ich bin ein Heidelberger," at the request of someone at a public event, garnering over 8.4 million views in two weeks.

On April 27th, the actor posted a video on his Instagram^[8] page where he further talks about the meme, saying he never expected it to become a meme, garnering over 32,000 likes in just over a week.

On April 28th, 2026, Instagram^[9] user saymo.aer posted a Young Sheldon edit that begins with the clip of Armitage saying the line in public, followed by numerous images from Young Sheldon, garnering over 47,000 likes in a week.
