It's My IP To Sit On and Do Nothing With is a quote from Smiling Friends season two episode one spoken by the CEO of Insane Groundbreaking Games after Pim fails to convince him to make a new game starring Gwimbly and announces plans to crowdfund their own Gwimbly game, the CEO saying, "I can't let them make an independent game! It's my IP to sit on and do nothing with!" The episode was released on April 1st, 2024, and the scene went viral over the following days, inspiring memes as a catchphrase and exploitable in which the sentence is attributed to real-life examples of unused or hardly used intellectual properties that die-hard fans wish companies would revive.
Origin
On April 1st, 2024, the first episode of Smiling Friends season two aired on Adult Swim. During the episode, Pim attempts to make a washed-up video game icon, Gwimbly, smile by getting him a new video game to star in. They go to Insane Groundbreaking Games headquarters and ask the CEO to revive the franchise but he refuses. After Pim suggests they crowdfund the game, the CEO says, "It's my IP to sit on and do nothing with!" (shown below).
The scene became the subject of memes that day. For example, on that day, Redditor u/Mental_Speaker340 posted a screenshot of the scene to /r/bloodborne,[1] writing, "Sony when they hear the sentence 'fans want a ps5 and pc port,'" garnering over 120 upvotes in a week.

On April 1st, 2024, X[2] user @Protodude posted the clip, writing, "This whole episode was pure gold, but this bit got me good," garnering over 18,000 likes in a week. On April 2nd, X[3] user @RiseFallNickBck quote-reposted the post with an image of the CEO with the Microsoft logo over his eyes, garnering over 19,000 likes in six days (shown below, left).
On the same day, X[4] user @BitzyMouse posted a photoshop with the Disney logo over his eyes and the Club Penguin logo in his hand, garnering over 400 likes in the same span of time (shown below, right).
On April 4th, YouTuber[5] Splashy the III posted an edit of the scene in which imagery and logos related to unused IPs from Activision games appear throughout, garnering over 200,000 views in four days (shown below).
On April 5th, 2024, Facebook[6] user The Baird's Roar posted a version of the meme originally posted by Facebook[7] user Megas XLR two days earlier about Nintendo threatening legal action against independent fan games, using the scene's full quote, "I can't let them make an independent game! It's my IP to sit on and do nothing with!" garnering over 230 reactions and 80 shares in three days (shown below).
