Katey Lorrell Scream Duets refers to a series of Duets on TikTok in which users create musical parodies alongside a viral video of TikToker @kateylorrel banging her hip on her bed frame and letting out a short scream. The trend began in mid-April 2022 shortly after Lorrell originally posted the clip.

Origin

On April 15th, 2022, TikToker @kateylorrell[1] posted a video of herself starting to show off her outfit, but as she backs up, she bangs her hip on her bed frame, causing her to let out a short yelp. The video gained over 2 million likes in four days (shown below).

The video quickly became the subject of Duets on TikTok, as users sang popular songs and utilized Lorrell's yelp as one of the notes in the song. For example, on April 15th, 2022, TikToker Peningtonn[2] posted a Duet utilizing Lorrell's yelp as the adlib in Kelly Rowland and Nelly's "Dilemma," gaining over 1.8 million likes in four days (shown below, left). On April 17th, user @mrjonzmusic[3] posted a Duet using the yelp as a note in The Bee Gees' "Stayin' Alive," gaining over 668,000 likes in two days (shown below, right).

The trend also began going viral on Twitter on April 18th when user DaShaunLH[4] posted a thread compiling some examples of the meme. Their original post (shown below), gained over 29,000 retweets and 177,000 likes (shown below).
