Kenneth Copeland's "Wind of God" refers to a viral video clip of evangelical preacher Kenneth Copeland praying and blowing away COVID-19 with the "wind of God" from his mouth in April 2020. The video was widely mocked online and accumulated remixes and captioned screenshots.

Origin

On April 3rd, 2020, Kenneth Copeland Ministries uploaded the video "2020 Virtual Victory Campaign (April 2-4): A Supernatural Heat Wave! (8:00 p.m. ET)" to YouTube (shown below). The video, which features Copeland attempting to eliminate coronavirus with his breath, gained over 64,700 views, 820 dislikes and 530 likes in 21 days.



Spread

On April 4th, 2020, Twitter user @travisakers reposted the clip with the captioned, "Hey everybody, we’re good now. Kenneth Copeland used his breath to blow the virus away" (shown below). The video garnered over 3.3 million views 19,900 likes and 5,700 retweets in 20 days.



On April 8th, YouTuber WTFBrahh uploaded a musical remix of the video and accumulated over 1.2 million views in 16 days (shown below). In the next few days, the remix was reposted to r/videos[6] and Facebook.[7]



On April 16th, Twitter user @SunderCR[4] posted screenshots of Copeland from the video captioned, "kenneth copeland as an oblivion npc that I'm trying to persuade" (shown below, left). The tweet gained over 640 likes in eight days. On April 22nd, Twitter user @TrumpsTaxes[5] also posted screenshots of Copeland but added the caption, "I'm not saying I believe in Satan…but if I did, I would absolutely believe that he'd look like televangelist Kenneth Copeland if he took human form" (shown below, right). The Daily Dot,[1] Independent[2] and Pink News[3] published articles on the video.
