The AI edit was used as a reaction image and exploitable on social media sites like Twitter / X, starting in October 2025. It was commonly paired with captions that joked about eating and weight. It was prevalent among Stan Twitter users. The exploited variations of the image included a moving GIF version, a skinny version and the original, unedited photo of Carpenter, seen in a blue dress on The Tonight Show, which was also used in viral tweets and memes as a humorous reversal of the "fat" version's use. The image's use in memes was also criticized for promoting fatphobia, according to some online. A DeviantArt user created the image in late 2024.

On August 22nd, 2024, Sabrina Carpenter was a guest on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon. She was pictured sitting in a blue dress on the couch.^[2][3]

Sometime after that and before September 5th, 2024, DeviantArt^[7] user PR-Styler shared a seemingly AI-generated edit of Carpenter as an obese woman, per an archived capture of their profile on the Internet Archive. The image is titled "Fat Sabrina Carpenter 6" on the profile. The image's page was not added to the archive.

On October 5th, 2025, X^[1] user @miz_irritating tweeted a low-quality version of the image. The tweet's caption read, "Cottage cheese & cookie dough protein bar is now," and it received over 280 likes in five days. It is currently the first discovered post to use a version of the Fat Sabrina Carpenter image.

Later on October 5th, 2025, X^[4] user @perfectllover tweeted the low-quality Fat Sabrina Carpenter image, captioning it, "Ate entire sub after I said I was going to save half for tomorrow." Over five days, the post gained over 122,000 likes.

On October 6th, X^[5] user @dancingofpens quote-tweeted the abovementioned post, writing, "Remember when I talked about fatphobia coming back?" Over four days, the quote-tweet received over 149,000 likes.

On October 7th, 2025, X^[6] user @blmother replied to @miz_irritating with the original HD version of the Fat Sabrina Carpenter image. The reply is currently the first known upload of the original image. It received nine likes in three days.

On October 8th, X^[8] user @oomfpit tweeted a warped and distorted version of the HD image, supposed to represent a skinny Sabrina Carpenter. It was paired with the caption, "Salad for lunch," and it received over 34,000 likes in two days.

On October 9th, 2025, X^[9] user @Stardusth2o quote-tweeted @oomfpit, writing, "CRYING at this being a skinny edit of the fat edit instead of just the original picture," gaining over 178,000 likes in two days.

Also on October 9th, X^[10] user @vigilantesht tweeted the original, unedited image of Sabrina Carpenter in a blue dress on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, captioning it, "Just ate a salad." The tweet gained over 3,700 likes in a day.

On October 8th, 2025, X^[11] user @FLOBRINANATION tweeted an AI video that animated the Fat Sabrina Carpenter image, showing Carpenter turning to smile at a person next to her and then turning the other way to laugh. Over two days, the post received over 230 likes.

The video was later used in viral tweets. For instance, on October 9th, X^[12] user @jubilescent tweeted the video as a GIF caption meme, captioning it, "Craving broccoli cheddar soup so I'm leaving to get broccoli cheddar soup," gaining over 28,000 likes in a day.
