Videos of young men mewing and holding their fingers to their lips before dragging them across their jawlines were shared online by Trump supporters that month who didn't recognize the gesture as a reference to a meme and were concerned that the men were making a threatening gesture instead. The confused and concerned reactions were then mocked by others online as the clips continued spreading on social media.

On October 4th, 2024, TikToker^[1] @taboopuzzle posted a video of a news broadcast of a Trump rally, supposedly held in Michigan. The video focuses on a young man in the audience behind former President Donald Trump holding his finger to his lips and then dragging it across his jaw. The video gathered over 3 million plays and 70,000 likes in two days.

Also on October 4th, X^[2] user @patriot_savvy posted another video of a young man mewing at a Trump rally, writing, "Would anyone like to explain this to me pls??? Concerning to say the least," and gathering over 37,000 likes in two days.
