The "Late Night Finds" Trend refers to a TikTok trend in which professional sports fans resurface old footage of classic NBA, NFL and football / soccer moments (among other leagues) set to the shoegaze song "scars" by Novulent ("Just one more lie and then I fall"). The trend started in 2024 and it trend relies on nostalgia and fandom.

Origin

Starting in September 2023, TikTokers[1] started posting sports-related content that used the TikTok sounds[2][3] for the song "scars" by Novulent.[4] In early 2024, TikTokers[5] resurfaced the song for sports edits.

On March 27th, 2024, TikToker[6] @2waylllevel posted a video of the Jacksonville Jaguars, including deceased NFL cornerback DJ Hayden who passed away in November 2023. The video used "scars" by Novulent and TikToker @2waylllevel wrote in the caption, "late night finds 😒." In two months, the video received roughly 599,200 plays and 157,600 likes (shown below).

Spread

Although the "Late Night Finds" trend started in March 2024, it didn't spread en masse until May 2024, starting with videos posted on May 3rd, 2024. One was shared by TikToker[7] @him42625, showing footage of a Houston Rockets vs. Oklahoma City Thunder game, gaining over 994,300 plays and 238,200 likes in six days (shown below, left).

The other video posted on May 3rd, 2024, was shared by TikToker[8] @dooley433, showing former New England Patriots quarterback Tom Brady, receiving over 1.3 million plays and 297,600 likes in six days (shown below, right).

Going into May 2024, the trend spread to multiple sports fandoms. For instance, on May 4th, 2024, TikToker[9] @sergxo0 posted a video of Lionel Messi scoring a goal for FC Barcelona, receiving over 1.4 million plays and 283,000 likes in five days (shown below, left).

On May 6th, 2024, TikToker[10] @user993940961 posted a video of an old Fortnite event, gaining over 1.4 million plays and 342,000 likes in three days (shown below, right).

Users on the app began praising the trend during the same timeframe. For instance, on May 5th, 2024, TikToker[11] @ylbersahitolli posted a video in which he said, "it's the best trend ever" and to "Please keep flooding my fyp with old NBA and NFL videos." Over four days, his TikTok received roughly 531,800 plays and 122,400 likes (shown below).
