About
Legging Legs is a slang term used to describe legs that are long and thin, suggesting that people with skinny, long legs and a thigh gap look the best in leggings. The term started to spread on TikTok as early as October 2023 and gained viral attention in January 2024 as women revolted against the term, suggesting that it shames women who are not skinny and that it could promote eating disorders, lead to mental health problems and make women feel insecure.
Origin
The earliest known use of the term "legging legs" on TikTok was posted by TikToker[1] @not_jassy14 on October 7th, 2023. In the video, the user lip dubs to an audio that goes, "That's how you look when you've just woken up? Nothing in my life is fair," while displaying the caption, "When you see a girl with PERFECT LEGGINGS LEGS." The video gained over 4.9 million views in three months (shown below, left). It is unconfirmed if this is the true origin of the term.
The term gained some spread over the following months. On November 27th, TikToker[2] @secretbrunettte posted a video about seeing girls with "legging legs," garnering over 5.1 million views in two months (shown below, right). The hashtag "#legginglegs" also started seeing use on TikTok.
