Let's Fight Somewhere Empty is an image macro series featuring a screenshot from the anime Dragon Ball Kai. The meme generally has two panels, the first showing the two characters standing apart in a mountain range and the next panel features them fighting on an image that is representative of a piece pop culture that the meme's author believes to be unpopular.

Origin

The earliest known usage of the format was published on April 3rd, 2018 by Redditor ^[1] DebonairTeddy and features the characters fighting on an image from the video game Sea of Theives (shown below). The post received more than 9,500 points (91% upvoted) and 650 comments in less than two years (shown below)

Spread

Days later, on April 11th, Twitter ^[2] user @KenXyro tweeted a variation of the meme featuring the characters in "my wallet." The post received more than 4,900 likes and 1,900 retweets in less than two years (shown below, left).

The following year, Redditor^[3] posted a variation about upvotes on Reddit and Reddit coins. The post received more than 9,300 points (shown below, center) 97% upvoted) in less than two months.

Weeks later, Redditor^[4] OtisTrackpants posted a variation in which the characters are in a movie theater playing the film Cats. The post received more than 25,000 points (98% upvoted) and 125 comments in less than two months (shown below, right).
