Lie To Me Pinocchio is an exploitable image macro format based on a drawing of Snow White princess sitting on Pinocchio's face while asking him to lie, suggesting an explicit act in the middle of a forest. The image went viral in early 2019 on Reddit, sparking ironic text memes in September 2024 in which the wooden doll lies about trending subjects, fandom-related lore and other topics.
Origin
The earliest known upload of the "Lie to Me Pinocchio" meme was posted on Reddit[1] by user @Ifuckedmyfriendsaunt on November 25, 2019, which shows Snow White princess sitting on top of the wooden doll's face saying "Tell the truth, now lie. Truth, lie. Truth, lie…" The post received roughly 177 upvotes and 5 comments in five years.
Spread
The image gained viral attention in late 2019 and resurfaced as an exploitable meme in September 2024 on Reddit, in which users added ironic texts of Pinocchio telling lies about trending topics or fandom-related content. For example, on September 27th, 2024, Redditor CUBuffs1992[2] uploaded a version of the meme in which Pinocchio says "Travis Hunter isn't the best college football player." The post (seen below) amassed more than 432 upvotes and 37 comments in a month.
On May 5th, 2020, Redditor[3] Bevur uploaded a screenshot of a disturbing comment about the "Liet to Me Pinocchio" meme (seen below), which amassed over 3,600 upvotes and 80 comments in four years.
