Origin

On August 15th, 2023, TikToker^[1] @liliannawilde posted a video alongside her partner that she describes is in the midst of a "love surge," which is "when one of us has so much love in our limbs that we can't contain it and we feel like we're gonna explode," she explained. LIlianna's video (shown below) quickly amassed over 3.2 million plays and 83,000 likes in a month.

The popularity of the August 15th, 2023, @liliannawilde clip made the term "love surge" go viral on TikTok over the following weeks, where many users recorded their shock over the content they perceived as cringe. For example, on September 11th, TikToker^[2] @kaaayysss posted a react video (shown below, left) that garnered over 8 million plays and 1.7 million likes in one day. On September 10th, TikToker^[3] @screamingava recorded her dog's reaction after watching the video (shown below, right), which amassed more than 9 million plays and 1.5 million likes in two days.
