M3GAN Dancing or the M3GAN Dance refers to a viral video of the android girl M3gan from the upcoming horror film of the same name dancing down a hallway. The trailer for the movie premiered online in October 2022 and quickly inspired memes on TikTok and Twitter setting the dance to a variety of songs, as well as recreating the dance and generally commentating on it, with many seeing it as funny and unexpected.

Origin

On October 11th, 2022, the trailer for James Wan's upcoming horror film M3GAN was posted to YouTube and Twitter,^[1] garnering over 87,000 views on the former and 1.6 million views on the latter in a day. The movie is about a realistic android girl who is tasked with protecting another young girl but ends up gaining a life of her own and going haywire, ultimately killing the people around her. Around the 2:01 minute mark, M3gan dances down a hallway to a horror remix of Taylor Swift's song "It's Nice to Have a Friend" (shown below).

Several users commented under the trailer tweet expressing surprise over the dancing scene (example shown below). On that day, Megan Thee Stallion retweeted^[2] the trailer, writing, "Not being biased but I think they made this movie for me," garnering over 28,000 likes in a day.

Spread

The dancing scene gained viral spread the day the trailer dropped. On October 11th, 2022, Twitter^[3] user @imirregulargirl posted the scene over the song "AMERICA HAS A PROBLEM" by Beyonce, garnering over 8,800 likes in a day. That day, Twitter^[4] user @iwishyouwoulds posted a version of the clip set to "It's Nice to Have a Friend" by Taylor Swift, making a joke about how you can't dance to Swift's music, garnering over 8,900 likes in a day (shown below).

On the same day, TikToker^[5]^[6] @lone.editsxx posted two edits of the clip set to different songs, garnering over 1.1 million and 2.7 million views respectively in a day (example shown below, left). TikToker^[7] @unpaulished posted a video dancing similarly to M3gan, garnering over 420,000 views in a day (shown below, right).

Twitter^[8]user @Pat_Merc posted a today's teens meme using the dancing video that day, garnering over 450 likes in a day (shown below). On the same day, Just Jared^[9] published an article about the meme.
