MacBook Craig refers to several images of Apple's senior vice president Craig Fegerighi looking at a MacBook laptop and turning towards the camera with a smile. In November 2020, still images from the video gained popularity online as source material for memes.

Origin

On November 10th, 2020, technology company Apple held an event dedicated to its new MacBook air laptop models.[1] In one clip of the presentation, Apple's vice president Craig Fegerighi introduced a new instant wake-up feature, crouching before a MacBook laptop, opening it, turning towards the camera and smiling.

Let me show you! But first, let's set the mood. How cool is that!

Following the presentation, several Twitter[2] users made humorous posts which used still images from the clip. For example, a tweet[3] by @NikiasMolina received over 250 retweets and 1,300 likes in three days (shown below, center). A same-day tweet[4] by @tldtoday gained over 190 retweets and 4,400 likes (shown below, right).

Later that day, Redditor[5][6] the_lenzflicker posted two templates for the meme to /r/InsiderMemeTrading, with the posts gaining over 770 and 50 upvotes in three days, respectively.

Following the_lenzflicker's post, the second template gained popularity on Reddit as a meme format, with some posts also utilizing other still images of Craig Fegerighi from the clip, For example, on November 11th, 2020, Redditor[7] Psalm20_7-9 posted a meme that received over 1,600 upvotes in /r/WallStreetBets subreddit in two days (shown below, left). On November 11th, 2020, Redditor[8] Ectoplasmorphe posted a meme that gained over 5,600 upvotes in one week (shown below, right).
