About
Meow Skulls is a Fortnite skin resembling an anthropomorphic calico cat in emo attire, including all black clothes, a black beanie, chains and tight jeans. The character is the sister of another cat character "Meowscles" and was added to the game in September 2022, inspiring fan art and content over the following days. Meow Skulls is presented as a female, with some speculating that the character is trans.
Origin
On September 18th, 2022, Meow Skulls was added to the Fortnite Battle Pass.[1] On that day, YouTuber VALtheVAL posted gameplay footage of the skin, garnering over 12,000 views in three days (shown below).
Spread
Following the skin's release, fans of the character began posting fan art and content about Meow Skulls online. on September 18th, Twitter[2] user @The_ExtraRare posted a piece of art where Meow Skulls asks for Epic Games to add Peter Griffin to Fortnite, garnering over 23,000 likes in four days (shown below, left). On September 21st, Twitter[3] user @catboots posted fan art of Meow Skulls, garnering over 12,000 likes in a day (shown below, right).
On the same day, TikToker[4] @.sylfurr.tt posted a compilation of fan art set to an original sound that repeats the word "mommy," garnering over 25,000 likes in a day (shown below). On September 22nd, Dot Esports[5] published a guide on how to unlock Meow Skulls.

Trans Speculation
In the days following the skin's released, some players hypothesized that Meow Skulls is trans. On September 19th, 2022, a Redditor posed the question on /r/FortNiteBR.[6] On September 20th, The Gamer[7] published an article titled, "Fortnite's Meow Skulls Is Giving Off Some Serious Transgender Energy."
