About
Metallica 72 Seasons Album Cover Parodies refers to a series of parody versions of the album cover for the metal band Metallica's LP titled 72 Seasons. The meme trend gained virality on Twitter and iFunny after the group launched a logo generator for the cover in mid-April 2023 shortly after its release.
Origin
On April 13th, 2023, American heavy metal rock band Metallica released a name generator for the cover art of their eleventh album 72 Seasons, planned for release the following day.[1][2] The tool generated text in Metallica's signature lettering and placed it on the cover art of the album, which also depicts a burnt crib, guitar and other items placed over a yellow background (shown below).

The tweet gained over 1,000 retweets, 8,500 likes and 9,300 quote tweets in four days as users quoted it with images created with the generator.
Spread
Starting on the same day, April 13th, 2023, users posted images created with the tool, many of which contained references to popular memes, internet lingo and names of other bands. For example, on April 14th, Twitter[3] user @yteeam placed the name of the rock band Megawatt on the cover, with the tweet gaining over 1,500 retweets and 8,500 likes in three days (shown below, left). On the same day, Twitter[4] user @SamanthaZera posted a version referencing the 2001 Metallica v. Napster lawsuit that gained over 340 retweets and 4,200 likes in three days (shown below, right).
In the following days, more images created with the generator were shared on Twitter, iFunny and other websites or platforms. For example, on April 15th, 2023, Twitter[5] user @BountyFaceless posted a version referencing Penis Inspection Day that received over 60 retweets and 1,200 likes in two days (shown below, left). On April 17th, iFunny[6] user FILTHYCASUAL69 captioned the cover with the term "Latinx," with the post gaining over 250 smiles on the app in one day (shown below, right).
