My Name is Yoshikage Kira or Yoshikage Kira Copypasta refers to a lengthy monologue said by JoJo's Bizarre Adventure manga and anime character Yoshikage Kira in which he describes his personal life and habits. Online, the monologue has been circulated as a copypasta and appeared in memes, primarily in the anime community.

Origin

On January 1st, 1994, chapter 345 of JoJo's Bizarre Adventure manga was released in Weekly Shonen Jump №1. In the chapter, character Yoshikage Kira enters a lengthy monologue about his personal life, describing his daily routine, habits and interests (manga panels shown below).[1]

On August 19th, 2016, episode 21 "Yoshikage Kira Just Wants to Live Quietly, Part 1" of part four Diamond is Unbreakable of JoJo's Bizarre Adventure anime series premiered.[2] In the episode, the monologue is featured (shown below, left (Japanese) and right (English dub)).



My name is Yoshikage Kira. I'm 33 years old. My house is in the northeast section of Morioh, where all the villas are, and I am not married. I work as an employee for the Kame Yu department stores, and I get home every day by 8 PM at the latest. I don't smoke, but I occasionally drink. I'm in bed by 11 PM, and make sure I get eight hours of sleep, no matter what. After having a glass of warm milk and doing about twenty minutes of stretches before going to bed, I usually have no problems sleeping until morning. Just like a baby, I wake up without any fatigue or stress in the morning. I was told there were no issues at my last check-up. I'm trying to explain that I'm a person who wishes to live a very quiet life. I take care not to trouble myself with any enemies, like winning and losing, that would cause me to lose sleep at night. That is how I deal with society, and I know that is what brings me happiness. Although, if I were to fight I wouldn't lose to anyone.

On May 28th, 2016, an anonymous 4chan user made a post in which he combined the Yoshikage Kira's monologue with the monologue said by American Psycho protagonist Patrick Bateman to /a/ board (shown below, left).[3] On June 30th, 2016, an anonymous 4chan user posted the monologue as shown in the translated version of the manga to /r9k/ board.[4] Between July 11th and 12th, 2016, four posts containing the first part of the monologue were posted to /a/ board (shown below, right).[5][6][7][8]

On August 25th, 2016, several days after the premiere of the episode containing the scene, Funnyjunk user secretzx posted the monologue as shown in the English subtitles as a comment, with the reply gaining 29 likes in three years.[9] On August 27th, Redditor Commanderofpie posted the monologue in /r/copypasta subreddit, gaining 9 upvotes in six months.[10]

In the following years, the monologue gained significant recognition in the anime community, often appearing as a copypasta in comment sections and being referenced in memes.
