Name a More Iconic Trio refers to a series of memes spread mocking a request to name a more iconic trio than the Kardashian sisters. The meme is a derivative of the earlier Name a More Iconic Duo format. In late June 2019, the format saw a surge of popularity on Reddit.

Origin

On September 28th, 2016, Twitter user @kyliebae13 posted a photograph of Kim Kardashian, Kylie Jenner and Khloe Kardashian, writing "Name a more iconic trio… I'll wait."^[1] The post gained over 940 retweets and 4,000 likes in three years. The tweet referenced the Name a More Iconic Duo post by Twitter user @negansvoid which went viral and became a meme on Twitter four days earlier.

Spread

In the following days, multiple users on Twitter replied to the post with photographs of trios which they deemed more iconic. For example, on September 29th, 2016, Twitter user @wearevenom__ replied with an image of Ash, Misty and Brock from the Pokémon anime series (shown below, left).^[2] On the same day, Twitter user @zanemoon_ tweeted an image of Alvin and the Chipmunks in response (shown below, right).^[3]

In late June 2019, the format saw a surge in popularity on Reddit following a June 24th post by Redditor phoenix749 which gained over 44,000 upvotes in /r/dankmemes subreddit in two weeks (shown below).^[4]
