About

Nemona is a character appearing in Pokémon Scarlet and Violet. She is the players' friend and guide during their journey, as well as their primary rival. She is described as having a sunny disposition and lacks the ability to throw Poké Balls well. She is regarded as a yandere type character due to a fan perception of her as having an obsessive stalker personality. After she appeared in a trailer on June 1st, 2022, she immediately became the subject of fan art and memes on social media.

Origin

Nemona was first introduced in the second trailer for Pokémon Scarlet and Violet, released on June 1st, 2022. She is seen asking the main character whose Pokemon the three Gen 9 starters belong to, and then she is shown battling with the help of her Pawmi. The trailer was posted to The Official Pokémon YouTube channel[1] and gathered over 6.8 million views in five months (seen below).

Spread

On June 9th, 2022, the official Pokémon Twitter[2] account posted a tweet introducing Nemona, gathering over 8,000 views (seen below). However, many of the replies expressed their displeasure at the then upcoming game having yet another "friendly" or Hau type rival.

Pokémon @Pokemon Meet your friend, Nemona! Nemona has a sunny, energetic disposition, and she absolutely loves Pokémon battles-though it seems she's not the best at throwing Poké Balls. She's an experienced Trainer who will guide you on your adventures! GIF #ScarletViolet Are you these three's Trainer? 5:00 PM - Jun 9, 2022. Sprinklr ⠀

On August 10th, 2022, Gamerant published an article discussing as to whether Nemona could be the first to "break two major Pokémon traditions at once," by being an experienced trainer who doesn't pick a starter alongside the player, and by possibly utilizing the power of "Terastallization," which is a process that grants every Pokemon the ability to change its existing types into any of the 18 currently available.[3] This new power was later confirmed, with the player receiving the "Tera Orb" from Nemona at Naranja Academy during the tutorial.
