About

Ogre, also known as Ogre Lounging, refers to the viral bait-and-switch video and Twitch emote of Twitch streamer Erobb221 laying on a couch shirtless. The name comes from the clip, which was clipped by Erobb221's girlfriend, Britt, who titled it "OGRE LOUNGING" in mid-March 2021, which subsequently inspired a wave of memes of Erobb's look during it. Since its creation, the clip and emote have become a prominent part of Twitch lore as a bait-and-switch meme used similarly to Rickrolling, with a painting of it even being used in part of a charity auction sale in 2023.

Origin

Clipped by Erobb's girlfriend Britt[1] on March 15th, 2021, the origin of the clip comes from a stream in which Erobb221 was complaining about feeling like he doesn't want to get onto the computer anymore, happening sometime in early 2021. The clip, which is titled "OGRE LOUNGING," has accumulated over 4 million views in roughly four years (shown below).

The image of Erobb lounging on the couch shirtless was then made into an official BetterTwitchTV[2] (BTTV) emote by the user Huamiguel on December 22nd, 2021, with it coming in three different varieties and being used on over 100 different channels as of late October 2024 (shown below).

Spread

Within the Erobb221 stream community, the emote instantly became a commonly used meme, with it being spammed at different points in the chat during livestreams and used in memes made by chatters. On June 19th, 2022, a clip was shared to the subreddit /r/LiveStreamFails by Redditor u/Doublenyher[3] in which Erobb shows that one of his fans had taken the emote from the clip and turned it into an extended mousepad and shipped it to him, much to the chagrin of Erobb's mother, with the clip gaining over 50,000 views in two years (shown below).

A year later, on October 2nd, 2023, while reviewing different items as part of a large-scale charity auction, streamer Pokimane discovered that one of the items was a hand-painting rendition of the OGRE emote, and learned about the lore and the clips behind it live.

This was uploaded that day to the YouTube channel Mizkif Clips,[4] with it being noted that at the time the OGRE clip had 1.6 million views (shown below). The following day on October 3rd, Sportskeeda[5] then published an article about Poki's reaction to the meme's virality.
