About
Out Of The Way, Pretty Boy! refers to a panel from the 2013 short comic series "Pretty Boy" by Omocat, best known as the creator of the video game Omori, where a jock yells at another student "out of the way, pretty boy" followed by the boy turning and embarrassing the jock, who finds himself attracted to the character. The image started to be used as an exploitable in 2019 as people photoshopped the image of Pretty Boy revealing himself to more comedic images.
Origin
On November 15th, 2013, artist Omocat posted a series of seven short comics to their blog[1] starring a character named Pretty Boy and a bully referred to as Jock who originally makes fun of him, but eventually falls in love with and gets married to him. The first comic shows the bully in a group of three others yell, "out of the way, Pretty Boy!" at Pretty Boy, who is reading with his back turned to them. He then turns and shows his face, embarrassing the boys as they realize how pretty he is (shown below). Omocat created the comics in a single night.
On February 1st, 2015, FunnyJunk[5] user magicmatchsticks posted a version of the comic replacing Pretty Boy with Lil B the Based God gaining three thumbs-downs in six years (shown below). This is the earliest known edit of the comic.
Spread
The Pretty Boy comic was edited a number of times over the following years. It saw increased interest in 2021 partially due to the popularity of OMORI. On August 17th, 2021, Facebook[3] page Pains Of Hell Wellness posted a version of the comic replacing Pretty Boy with an ugly face, gaining over 3,000 reactions in two months (shown below).
Pretty Boy and Jock notably make a cameo appearance in Omocat's video game OMORI as NPCs (shown below).
On October 29th, Instragram[4] page neem_official posted a version of the comic replacing Pretty Boy with a cat, gaining over 1,600 likes in five days (shown below, left). On September 30th, Instagram[2] user inhalemybees posted a version of the meme replacing Pretty Boy with an image of Drake looking effeminate, gaining over 41,000 likes in three days (shown below, right).
