My Name's Not Rick! Is a phrase said by Patrick Star from SpongeBob SquarePants after SpongeBob erases half of Patrick's name on his Chum Bucket ID card. It gained popularity in various edits, such as remixes and reactions, used when someone spells a name wrong.

Origin

On September 28th, 2001, SpongeBob SquarePants season two, episode 39b aired, entitled "The Fry Cook Games."[1] In the episode, SpongeBob and Patrick participate in the Wrestling competition, and in one scene, SpongeBob corners Patrick and tries to delete Patrick's name on his Chum Bucket ID card, only leaving "Rick." On May 24th, 2007, YouTube[2] user fadetwoblack uploaded the earliest clip of it and received more than 7.7 million views in 16 years (shown below).

Spread

In 22 years, the scene started gaining traction and had a few edits referencing to it. For example on December 9th, 2012, DeviantArt[3] user jujujuni uploaded a webcomic based on the scene. The image received more than 2,000 views in 11 years (shown below, left). On September 1st, 2022, DeviantArt[4] user Octimelius uploaded an edit combining Pickle Rick to the meme. The image received more than 1,200 views in six months (shown below, right).

For example on November 13th, 2008, YouTube[5] user wilford67 uploaded an edit using the scene that received more than 406,000 views in 14 years (shown below, left). On May 21st, 2009, YouTube[6] user RAVAGE656 uploaded a similar edit that received more than 528,000 views in 13 years (shown below, right).

On April 17th, 2012, YouTube[7] user ImmaSuperBuu uploaded an edit using a Dragon Ball scene. The video received more than 47,000 views in 10 years (shown below, left). On May 19th, 2012, YouTube[8] user DrevGuy uploaded a similar edit using poorly-drawn Kirby characters. The video received more than 103,000 views in 10 years (shown below, right).
