About

Patrick's 'Wee Woo' refers to a scenefrom SpongeBob SquarePants in which Patrick Star, imitating the sound of a siren, urgently shouts "WEE WOO" to SpongeBob over a walkie talkie. The scene went on to become a popular reaction image in memes, used to describe the poster's reaction to seeing something shocking or dangerous.

Origin

On August 28th, 1999, season one, episode 7a of SpongeBob SquarePants, titled "Hall Monitor," premiered in the US.[1] In the episode, Patrick and SpongeBob begin looking for a "maniac" (who is actually SpongeBob). The pair split up and Patrick, playing like a police officer, imitates the sound of a siren, repeating "wee woo" in a nervous time. When he comes upon the "maniac," his "Wee Woos" get more urgent and frightened. On April 2nd, 2012, YouTube[2] user Angela Moon uploaded the scene and received more than 1.2 million views in eleven years (shown below).

In the early 2010s, the scene gained popularity as a reaction image, with edits adding Patrick below a "shocking" image. For example on October 7th, 2012, Colors Live[3] user AnonArtist uploaded a meme about Patrick seeing the Slender Man (shown below, left). On December 24th, 2013, DeviantArt[4] user Kellarn uploaded a similar meme and received more than 1,600 views in ten years (shown below, right).
