Hot Take Melody or hot_take_melody (referencing the slang term "hot take") is a TikToker who went viral in January 2025 after posting a video ranting about how she "doesn't give two shits" if Mexican families are being separated via ICE deportations in the United States following actions taken by President Donald Trump, calling them "subhuman." After the video was posted, Melody received significant backlash on TikTok and X / Twitter, causing her to privatize her account as the clip sparked controversy online.
History
January 2025 "Families Being Separated" Video
On or around January 27th, 2025, TikToker[1] @hot_take_melody uploaded a video in which she says that she doesn't care if families are being separated, referring to deportations of Mexican people in the U.S. In the video, she says she "finds it hilarious" and it gives her comfort. She says she has "no sympathy" that a father might be separated from his children and sent back to "Mexico or whatever." She then says she's "actually laughing" at them and calls them "subhuman."
She also talks about how people who stormed the capital on January 6th were separated from their families for "little more" than what amounts to a trespassing charge. The video gained an unknown number of interactions before her account was made private (repost shown below).

Online Reactions
Following the release of her "families being separated" video, Hot Take Melody garnered significant backlash online, with some calling for her to be removed from social media. On January 27th, 2025, X[2] user @MAGACult2 reuploaded the video, writing, "Let’s make this b famous," garnering over 4,600 likes in a day.
On the same day, X,[3] TikTok[4] and Instagram[5] user @tizzyent posted a video about Hot Take Melody. In the video, he shares that she already had him blocked before he ever knew who she was. He then plays the video and goes on to make fun of Melody and criticize her take, garnering over 2.5 million views on TikTok, 12,000 likes on X and 74,000 likes on Instagram in a day.

Also on January 27th, 2025, X[6] user @WallStreetApes posted a defense for Hot Take Melody, sharing her video and writing, "This woman PERFECTLY explains how every Donald Trump voter is feeling right now about ICE raids, mass deportations and breaking families up. After what Democrats just put the American People through the past 4 years, we are DONE," garnering over 12,000 likes in a day.
