About

ProximityChat, often spelled two words as Proximity Chat, is a YouTuber known for videos documenting provocative interactions and trolling encounters within the social virtual reality platform and video game VRChat. ProximityChat launched his channel in late 2023, garnering virality throughout the mid-2020s.

His content frequently involves interactions with furries, roleplayers, couples, virtual families and businesses, as well as players involved in activities such as hypnotism or "phantom sense" (phantom pain). His presence in VRChat has also developed into a recognizable persona within parts of the platform's community, where players have reportedly recognized him during encounters and circulated rumors about his activities.

Online History

ProximityChat's YouTube channel was launched on November 14th, 2023, initially focusing on videos centered around unusual and confrontational interactions in VRChat.

His videos commonly involved entering public VRChat worlds and deliberately interacting with players in ways intended to disrupt roleplay or provoke strong reactions.

The channel grew rapidly during the mid-2020s, reaching approximately 775,000 subscribers and 70 million total views by August 2026.[1]

On March 24th, 2024, a video titled "I Ruined a Virtual Concert" was uploaded to the @ProximityChatt YouTube[2] channel, receiving over 1.2 million views in just over two years.

Online Presence

Throughout the channel's growth, ProximityChat's reputation increasingly extended beyond his YouTube videos across the broader internet. His repeated appearances in VRChat led some players to recognize him on the platform, with his arrival sometimes becoming an event in itself.

Discussions surrounding his activities also produced rumors and exaggerated claims about his behavior, including allegations involving doxxing and other misconduct, although such claims have circulated primarily as part of the broader community discourse surrounding his persona.[3]

Others view his videos as entertainment or as a form of commentary on players who take VRChat roleplay and social interactions excessively seriously.

On June 8th, 2024, ProximityChat[4] uploaded a video titled "VR Coffee Shop Employee Meltdown," which showcased VRChat players earnestly operating a virtual coffee shop. The video received 1.6 million views in about two years.

Reputation

ProximityChat has developed a polarized reputation within the VRChat community, particularly among furry, family, roleplay and other tightly organized groups that have appeared in his videos.

Some players have characterized him as a notorious troll or a "boogeyman" due to his tendency to enter established communities, provoke players and document their reactions for his YouTube channel.

On September 19th, 2025, ProximityChat[5] uploaded a video titled "I Have Become The Most Hated VR Chat Player," which showcases various VRChat users reacting negatively to his presence. The video received 2.3 million views in less than one year.

ProximityChat later created a virtual museum in VRChat dedicated to documenting and displaying notable encounters from his videos, further contributing to his recognizable persona within the platform's community.

On February 14th, 2026, ProximityChat[6] posted a video featuring the museum, which received 1.4 million views in about five months.
