About
The Persona Challenge, also known by its hashtag #PersonaChallenge, is a social game in which participants share an old photograph of themselves and a recent one, highlighting their changes, similar to the Glo Up and the 10 Year Challenge. The challenge was inspired by a music video for the song "Persona" by the K-pop music group BTS.
Origin
On March 27th, 2019, BTS released a trailer for the EP Map of the Soul: Persona. The song features BTS member RM rapping about growing up and adolescence. Within 24 hours, the post received more than 10 million views (shown below).
That day, Twitter[4] user @natskashi retweeted a post showing RM in 2013 and 2019. They captioned the retweet "persona challenge post your 2013 vs 2019 self." The post received more than 270 retweets and 1,300 likes in 24 hours (shown below).
Spread
That day, fans of the group began posting two side-by-side selfies on Twitter. The posts featured photographs of the participant from the past and present, comparing their looks. The posts were cataloged using the hashtag.
Several media outlets covered the challenge, including Teen Vogue,[1] Elite Daily[2] and more. That day, Twitter[3] published a Moments page about the hashtag and social media posts.
