About
Piperacillin/Tazobactam Memes For Psuedomonas Cover Teens refers to a Facebook meme page targeted to medical professionals which posts memes celebrating Piperacillin and Tazobactam, two broad spectrum antibiotics commonly prescribed to treat and infection from an unknown source. The medications are highly effective, but famously overused by doctors too lazy to find a more specific or appropriate antibiotic.
History
The Facebook meme page devoted to the two antibiotics was started on June 2nd, 2017. Currently, it has over 11,000 followers.[1]
The cocktail of Piperacillin and Tazobactam, which can only be injected intravenously, is reportedly one of the most widely-prescribed drugs in the United States. The pair of antibiotics are regarded amongst most doctors and surgeons as being the best antimicrobial therapy. Not only does it have a fantastic broad spectrum of activity (ie. ability to treat bacterial infections of all kinds), it is highly efficacious. It was patented in 1974 and approved for medical use in 1981. The World Health Organization lists the medication as "critically important."[2]
A June 25th, 2017 Dam Edits meme (seen below) comparing the two antibiotics to a dam wall holding back a flood received over 750 likes and almost 270 comments over the course of five years.[3]
While the page is currently inactive and has been since 2018, fans have called for a revival for years.
Features
Typical posts either offer over-the-top praise of Piperacillin and Tazobactam or mock physicians who rely too much on the drugs. The "pseudomonas cover" in the meme page's title refers to the fact that Piperacillin/Tazobactam works against ("covers") many infections that are resistant to other antibiotics.[4]
The Distracted Boyfriend meme seen below, posted on September 3rd, 2017, pokes fun at the admin of the page who is presumably a doctor overprescribing the two medications. It received over 780 likes and 300 comments in five years.[5] It was accompanied by a text post apologizing for a hiatus in posting and blaming the hiatus on "a massive bender snorting lines of pure piptaz.)
The page accepted and reposted memes made by members of its community, such as this one from December 3rd, 2017, which was credited to Alex Pace and received over 1,000 likes Andover 740 comments in five years.[6]
