QRT With Your Favorite Meme is a social media challenge that involves users quote tweeting the original post with their favorite memes related to a certain fandom, such as an anime series or a video game. The trend gained virality on Twitter in late May 2023.

Origin

While the social media challenge did not get traction until mid-May 2023, earlier separate examples of tweets^[1][2][3] prompting others to quote tweet them with thematic memes appeared on Twitter starting in November 2020 (examples shown below). For example, on November 22nd, 2020, Twitter^[1] user @timiPR made the earliest found notable "QRT with your favorite meme" request, with the tweet (shown below, left) garnering over 1,000 retweets and 4,800 likes in three years.

On May 17th, 2023, Twitter^[4] user @catgirlspock tweeted a Star Trek meme together with the caption, "qrt this with your favorite star trek meme/post." The tweet (shown below) garnered over 1,400 retweets, 810 quote tweets and 8,700 likes in two weeks, starting the trend.

Spread

In the following days, more users posted similar requests on Twitter, usually accompanying their posts with their favorite memes. For example, on May 19th, 2023, Twitter^[5] user @TheKeyWeveLost prompted others to share Soulsborne memes that garnered over 1,400 retweets, 430 quote tweets and 8,900 likes in two weeks (shown below, left). On May 21st, Twitter^[6] user @scorchedprince made a tweet asking for The Legend of Zelda memes, with the post accumulating over 1,000 retweets and 11,300 likes in 10 days (shown below, right).

The trend maintained its prevalence in late May 2023, spreading across many popular fandoms^[7][8][9] such as Dragon Ball, Super Smash Bros. and Kingdom Hearts.
