About

Quaso refers to a butchered pronunciation of "croissant" that was said by TikTok user @niclas.pb. The sound of the clip was used as exploitable and was shared in the misheard song lyric speech bubbles format.

Origin

On November 30th, 2022, TikTok[1] user @niclas.pb uploaded a duet with @bakewithjustin who making a croissant (the original sound clip was from TikTok[2] user @lauragouillon). Every time @bakewithjustin says "croissant," @niclas.pb says "quaso" instead. The video received more than 2.8 million views in one month (shown below).

Starting December 2022, the sound clip become popular on Twitter and TikTok, used similarly as a misheard song lyric in memes. For example, on December 20th, 2022, Twitter[3] user @chiochiiii uploaded a clip using Bocchi The Rock! characters. The tweet received more than 3,600 retweets and 13,600 likes in three days (shown below).



On December 16th, 2022, TikTok[4] user @ldnaep uploaded a clip using Chainsaw Man characters. The video received more than 651,000 views in one week (shown below, left). On the next day, TikTok[5] user @cryingtoast uploaded a similar clip that received more than 2.6 million views in one week (shown below, right).

On December 22nd, 2022, Facebook[6] user Ahmad Abdillah uploaded an image of croissants and the Indonesian snack pisang molen labeled as "quaso." The post received 893 reactions and more than 3,000 shares in one day (shown below).
