"Chestnuts Roasting On An Open Fire" Guy Singing also known as AnucAtittawan on Smule, Man Singing "Chestnuts Roasting On An Open Fire," the Chess Nuss Guy or Smule Couple Singing Christmas Songs, is a viral video of a male user on the karaoke app Smule named Anuc (@AnucAtittawan) singing Nat King Cole's "The Christmas Song (Merry Christmas To You)" in which he mispronounces the lyrics. The video was uploaded in December 2022 and soon spread to TikTok, leading to humorous, phonetic translations and his insertion into exploitable video templates such as Yeah I'd Like To Solve The Puzzle. It was also faked by a Facebook user named Deborah-Ann McMann that Anuc was her Argentinian pen pal named Tomàs. Other videos from Anuc's Smule surfaced on TikTok thereafter, many of them being Christmas carols sung with a woman named 13336her (examples being "All I Want For Christmas Is You" and "Santa Claus Is Comin' to Town").

Origin

In accordance with his Smule^[2] profile's bio, AnucAtittawan's real name is Anuc and he lives in Italy. He is a prolific creator on Smule with over 16,700 followers and 122,000 recordings as of December 2022.

On December 9th, 2022, Smule^[1] user AnucAtittawan posted a cover of the song "The Christmas Song" by Nat King Cole which has the primary lyrics "Chestnuts roasting on an open fire. Jack Frost nipping at your nose." Over the course of one week, the video received 557 plays and 44 loves (shown below, left). Later on the same day, Smule^[3] user 13336hera posted a joint video with AnucAtittawan to the app in which they sang a duet of Nat King Cole's "The Christmas Song." Over the course of one week, the video received 257 plays and 14 loves (shown below, right).

The video of 13336hera and AnucAtittawan's duet went viral on December 9th, 2022, when TikToker^[4] heraloani reposted it to the platform, gaining roughly 1 million plays and 209,200 likes in one week (shown below). TikToker heraloani is also Smule user 13336hera and had a habit of reposting AnucAtittawan and her's videos, however, she didn't go viral until the "Chestnuts Roasting On An Open Fire" video. On December 19th, 2022, TikToker heraloani deleted the video.

On December 11th, 2022, TikToker^[5] heraloani reposted the latter half of AnucAtittawan and 13336hera's Nat King Cole cover, gaining roughly 184,800 plays and 34,200 likes in five days (shown below, left). On December 12th, 2022, TikToker^[6] heraloani reposted a different video of the duo singing "All I Want For Christmas Is You" by Mariah Carey, gaining roughly 795,200 plays and 158,600 likes in four days (shown below, right).

Thereafter, the videos were reposted to Facebook,^[7] iFunny^[8] and Twitter.^[9] On December 15th, 2022, TikToker^[10] alexis.rinae inserted the video of Anuc singing "Chestnuts Roasting On An Open Fire" into the Yeah I'd Like To Solve The Puzzle template, gaining roughly 90,100 likes in one day (shown below, left). Also on December 15th, TikToker^[11] deborahann.mcmann posted a faked screen-recording of a faked Facebook post to the group I love CHRISTMAS…🎅🎅^[12] that read:

Wanted to share this beautiful and heartwarming video my pen pal from Argentina sent me. He barely speaks English, and decided to record a Christmas carol even with his language barrier! Let's all give Tomàs a round of applause!!!

The TikTok received roughly 1.6 million plays and 263,100 likes in one day (shown below, right).

Various phonetic translations of Anuc's singing surfaced in the comment sections of each TikTok video. The most prominent being:
