Berried Delight refers to a Name Soundalike, Misheard Lyrics meme about the Devil May Cry song "Bury the Light." In the wake of a joke saying a dessert with the name "Berried Delight" sounded like the song's title, Devil May Cry fans made jokes connecting the dessert to the series.

Origin

On August 27th, 2022, Reddit user PompousForkHammer uploaded a screenshot of the recipe for a dessert called "Berried Delight" to the /r/DevilMayCry[1] subreddit, gaining over 980 points in one year (shown below, left). On the same day, Reddit[2] user apitifuldisgrace to the same subreddit uploaded a "Name Soundalike" edit of the recipe, adding Vergil in a red circle. The post gained over 870 upvotes in one year (shown below, right).

Over the following months, Devil May Cry fans continued to add onto the joke. For example, on August 29th, 2022, YouTube[3] user Hemotoksin uploaded a video that added "Bury the Light" to apitifuldisgrace's image, gaining over 92,000 views in one year (shown below).

On November 8th, 2022, YouTube[4] user Stinkus uploaded a similar "Red Circle" edit and received more than 124,000 views in nine months (shown below, left). On December 7th, 2022, YouTube[5] user Proxy Games uploaded an edit that received more than 127,000 views in eight months (shown below, right).

On March 22nd, 2023, YouTube[6] user RG33 uploaded a skit about Vergil and Dante battling each other in a cooking contest, with Vergil making a "Berried Delight" cake. The video received more than 951,000 views in five months (shown below).
