Things That Just Make Sense or Random Things In My Japanese Home That Just Make Sense is a series of TikTok house or room tour videos that begin with the phrase "random things in my X home that just make sense," followed by a showcase of weird or unique things in their home. The videos, which became popular in April 2020 due to one tour of a Japanese home, inspired a series of ironic parodies on TikTok.

Origin

On April 6th, 2020, TikToker her.atlas uploaded a short video tour of her Japanese home, highlighting some specific features that could only be found in a Japanese home (shown below). The video garnered over 6.8 million likes in 17 days.

Spread

On April 11th, 2020, TikToker findmyairpodsamiri uploaded a variation on the original video but listed features about AirPods "that just make sense" (shown below, left). The video gained over 2.5 million likes in 12 days. On April 22nd, TikToker pattygotnocake uploaded a parody that features her small rented NYC room that received over 1.3 million likes in a day. That same day, TikToker naivesteev uploaded another variation which shows off his garage apartment (shown below, right). The video gained over 643,000 likes in a day.

"Che La Luna" Sound

In late 2021 throughout early 2022, TikTokers began following the trend under a sound consisting of the song "Che La Luna" by Louis Prima, snapping their fingers as they showcase the items in their home. The videos are often Italian themed or showcases of rich people's homes (popular examples shown below).^[1][2]

Continued Spread

The trend has also spread outside of TikTok. On December 26th, 2021, Instagram^[4] user thebernerbunch posted a video inspired by the trend showcasing things their dog does that make no sense, gaining over 355,000 likes in two months (shown below). The video was reposted by Instagram^[5] user barked on January 28th, 2022, gaining over 884,000 views in under a month.

On February 12th, 2022, YouTuber^[3] paige layle posted a video titled "things in my autistic home that just make sense" where she discusses and talks about things that make sense in her house as a person with autism, gaining over 38,000 views in six days (shown below).
