The exact origins of the phrase "raw, next question," are unclear. Examples of the phrase being used in the relevant context can be found online as early as May 2nd, 2019, when X^[1] user @Yattabing posted in response to a post reading, "It's casual sex…but u cuddling with her and she spending the night," with, "Yes and hitting her raw.. next question.."

Posts exclusively using the phrase "raw, next question," became increasingly popular over the following years. For example, on September 26th, 2021, X^[2] user @ciaobellaja posted, "Raw next question" in response to an image of a Twitter Space where men were discussing condom or raw sex, garnering one like in four years.

The phrase became notably popular in late 2024. For example, on November 28th, 2024, X^[3] user @cvmfortble posted images of Drew Starkley, writing, "raw, next question," garnering over 5,900 likes in two months.

That month, the phrase was popularized on TikTok as a comment. On November 30th, 2024, TikToker^[4] @itsfred posted a video in which he scolds a person who commented "raw, next question" on one of his videos, garnering over 2.3 million views in two months.

On December 2nd, TikToker^[5] @julesorwhateva posted a video in which several spam comments, including "raw, next question," are displayed on the screen, garnering over 6 million views in a month, On December 4th, the comment was defined on Urban Dictionary.^[6]

On January 12th, 2025, TikToker^[7] @morganjmartinez posted a skit as a fantasy football punishment in which he acts out a scenario where a waitress asks him how he wants his steak and he responds, "Raw, next question," then reveals that he's not talking about the steak, garnering over 2.8 million views in two weeks. On January 14th, TikToker^[8] @nayan.martlin posted a similar video, garnering over 5.9 million views in the same span of time.

That same day, the official Duolingo TikTok^[9] page posted a video where they translated several phrases, including "Raw, next question," into Mandarin, garnering over 14 million views in nine days.

On January 16th, 2025, X^[10] user @whimsyyy_ posted, "'atta girl' raw, next question," implying that if a man says "atta girl" to her it turns her on, garnering over 8,200 likes in a week. On January 22nd, X^[11] user @bunyslilarchive posted, "'im old enough to be your dad.' raw, next question," garnering over 3,300 likes in a day.
