About
Rosa's Thinking Pose refers to a posture performed by Rosa, the female protagonist of Pokémon Black 2 & White 2, in the game Pokémon Masters. Its popularity, combined with that of pre-existing similar memes, led to a lot of online fan art.
Origin
Rosa is one of the playable trainers of the mobile video game Pokémon Masters EX. As soon as late June 2019, two months before the official release of the game, several socila media users noticed instances of Rosa spreading her thumb and index under her chin, in a classic thinking pose (see examples below).
The earliest fan art inspired by this pose was poster on Twitter on June 27th, 2019 by @yo12187663[1]. It gained over 9,600 retweets and 34,000 likes.
Spread
The popularity of Rosa's pose can be partially explained by the online influence of two similar older memes: the Thinking Face Emoji, and Nyannyancosplay's 2018 TikTok video Hit Or Miss? 😎💕. The oldest reference to Nyannyancosplay in a Rosa picture is an edit posted on Know Your Meme by ZoruaLoL on June 30th, 2019[2].
As for the Thinking Face Emoji, its oldest instance in a Rosa picture goes back to a drawing by DeviantArt user bob4545[3], posted on July 4th, 2019.
