About

Save As .dmx refers to a viral Source Filmmaker Team Fortress 2 parody showing the Engineer character singing "X Gon Give It To Ya" by DMX. The video was only 7 seconds long, but developed some infamy in the Team Fortress 2 fandom, as its uploader promised they would make an extended version and has not delivered in nearly nine years.

Origin

On July 2nd, 2012, YouTuber phontomen1 uploaded "Save as .dmx," a seven-second clip of Team Fortress 2's Engineer singing "X Gon Give It To Ya" by DMX. The video gained over 2 million views in nearly nine years (shown below).

Spread

In the description for the video, phontomen1 wrote, "don't worry about the Extended cut, X GONNA DELIVER." However, in 9 years, the user never uploaded an extended cut of the video. As the years went on, the absence of the extended cut became a common point of jokes in the comments of the video. It also inspired multiple users to make their own extended cuts of the video. For example, on August 18th, 2012, user e7magic posted an extended cut of the video, gaining over 233,000 views (shown below, left). On July 14th, 2015, YouTuber Ronald_D_D uploaded an extended version intended to be as close to the original as possible, gaining over 745,000 views (shown below, right).

After the Ronald_D_D video, phontomen1 posted a sequel SFM video using the "X Gon Give It To Ya" intro, though he never uploaded the extended cut (shown below). The video was posted to Reddit, where it was described as an "apology."[1]
