About
Sciencemas refers to an Atheist alternative to Christmas often said mockingly in memes. The idea of Sciencemas or science being the cause of Christmas magic, as opposed to Santa Claus, stems from the Santa Deniers meme about people who don't believe in Santa who are often likened to atheists who believe in "science" instead. The memes commonly joked about presents evolving under the tree or waiting for "Darwin Claus." Sciencemas memes began in 2020 and continued into the early 2020s. Many referenced Dr. Anthony Fauci who became the face of science and vaccines amid the COVID-19 Pandemic. Sciencemas memes often came in the form of GIF Captions, Impact font memes or TikTok video skits.
Origin
"Sciencemas" was used earnestly on platforms like Twitter / X [1] as early as December 2009. However, memetic usage didn't surface en masse until 2019 and 2020, a few years after the Santa Deniers meme began. For instance, on December 25th, 2019, X[2] user @CJM156156 shared an Impact font meme that referenced both "Santa deniers" and "science," receiving 96 likes in five years (shown below).
Currently, the earliest discovered meme to use "Sciencemas" was shared by iFunny[3] user @noshndosh on November 3rd, 2020. The GIF Caption showed a monkey typing with top text reading, "Atheists when you say Christmas instead of Sciencemas," receiving 12 smiles in four years (shown below).

On November 21st, 2020, iFunny[4] user @Monticola shared a GIF Caption using the Ren & Stimpy Waking Up Scene, reading, "Atheists when they go to sleep on Sciencemas Eve and realize they forgot to put out child blood and aborted fetuses for Darwin Claus," receiving over 500 smiles in four years (shown below).
The meme resurfaced in the following year, evident in a post shared by iFunny[5] user @damnedtheboomba on November 27th, 2021, reading, "Santa deniers at Sciencemas Eve when they hear Darwin Claus evolving," receiving over 22,200 smiles in three years (shown below).
On December 24th, X[6] user @ManletThorin shared a Wojak comic with a caption referencing Sciencemas, Funko Pops and Dr. Fauci concerning the COVID-19 Pandemic, gaining over 3,400 likes in three years (shown below).
Sciencemas memes also surfaced on TikTok during the same timeframe. For instance, on December 23rd, 2021, TikToker[7] @okcron posted a video about Atheists being excited for presents to evolve under the tree on Sciencemas, gaining over 466,500 plays and 85,400 likes in three years (shown below).

The memes continued in 2022, evident in a video posted by TikToker[8] @london_k12 on December 9th, amassing over 102,000 plays and 14,800 likes in two years (shown below).
