About

SCP-106, also known as The Old Man and Radical Larry, is an SCP Foundation object. In the SCP Foundation universe, SCP-106 appears to be an elderly humanoid able to pass through solid matter, corrupt any materials it touches and trap its victims in a pocket dimension. A well-known SCP entity, SCP-106 and peculiar methods used to contain him are often featured in memes related to the SCP Foundation.

Origin

On April 8th, 2010, prominent SCP Foundation[1] community member DrGears submitted an entry describing a new Keter class SCP, filed as SCP-106. The original entry described the object as an elderly humanoid in a state of advanced decomposition, who was able to corrupt any material it touched and enter a pocket dimension, utilizing this ability to pass through solid matter. The SCP-106 would "hunt and attack based on desire", often trapping his victims in his pocket dimension, and was extremely difficult to contain.

SCP-106 appears to be an elderly humanoid, with a general appearance of advanced decomposition. […] When attacking, SCP-106 will attempt to incapacitate prey by damaging major organs, muscle groups, or tendons, then pull disabled prey into its pocket dimension. […] SCP-106 causes a β€œcorrosion” effect in all solid matter it touches, engaging a physical breakdown in materials several seconds after contact.[…] SCP-106 is capable of passing through solid matter, leaving behind a large patch of its corrosive mucus.

On the same day, DrGears[1] uploaded several edited images to illustrate the entry. The origin of the image used to portray SCP-106 (shown below, left) is currently unknown.

Spread

Since the creation of the entry, several short stories describing SCP-106's potential origin[2][3] and his methods of hunt[4][5] have been written by the SCP Foundation community members.

SCP-106 is often referred to as "Radical Larry" by the SCP Foundation fans. While the exact origin of the nickname is unclear[7], it was popularized by YouTuber[8] Markiplier who would refer to SCP-106 as Radical Larry during his playthroughs of SCP – Containment Breach video game. On May 8th, 2018, Urban Dictionary[8] user CGlord added the "Radical Larry" entry to the site.

On January 10th, 2019, the original images used for the SCP-106 entry were changed due to copyright issues[10], with new images chosen via a photography contest[11] and community reaction being mixed[12][13][14]. Several further changes were made during the following week, with the current image used for the entry uploaded by SCP Foundation subreddit moderator Modern_Erasmus on January 17th, 2019 (shown below, lower left). On January 26th, 2019, the image on the website was briefly replaced with an edited photograph of YouTuber Michael "Vsauce" Stevens by SCP Foundation community user Duma.

In January 2019, memes referencing the changes of the SCP-106 entry image saw a surge in popularity in the /r/DankMemesFromSite19[6] subreddit. Memes about SCP-106 often reference the method of luring the entity into a containment area by breaking the femur bone of a "lure subject" and broadcasting their screaming over the public address system. In these examples, a machine known as the Femur Breaker from SCP – Containment Breach video game is often mentioned.

Various Examples

When you hear a researcher say activate the femur breaker and you still have two unbroken femurs imagine getting jumped by a bunch of scps and you hear one of them say "put that n---- in the femur breaker" ΠΎΠ΅ Sal accidently opened SCP-106's containment leading to the death of 11 on-site personnel, making him tonight's big loser
