About
SCP-3008, also known as A Perfectly Normal, Regular Old IKEA, is an SCP Foundation object. In the SCP universe, SCP-3008 is an IKEA furniture store with a theoretically infinite interior space, populated by trapped shoppers and grotesque, monstrous versions of IKEA employees who behave aggressively during closing hours.
History
On May 4th, 2017, SCP Foundation user Mortos submitted an entry for a Euclid-class entity SCP-3008.[1] The entry described an IKEA store which serves as an entry point to SCP-3008-1, a space resembling an IKEA furniture store, but "extending far beyond the limits of what could physically be contained within the dimensions of the retail unit". Although SCP-3008-1 has one or several exit points within its confines, their locations are not fixed, which makes exiting the SCP close to impossible.
In addition to shoppers trapped inside, who established a society over the years, SCP-3008-1 is also inhabited by instances of SCP-3008-2 – grotesque, large humanoid creatures wearing IKEA uniforms that lack faces.
SCP-3008-1 has a rudimentary day-night cycle, determined by the overhead lighting within the space activating and deactivating at times consistent with the opening and closing times of the original retail store. During the "night" instances of SCP-3008-2 will become violent towards all other lifeforms within SCP-3008-1. During these bouts of violence they have been heard to vocalise phrases in English that are typically variations of "The store is now closed, please exit the building".
SCP-3008 references a popular culture trope of IKEA retail units being designed in a labyrinth-like manner, making it easy for shoppers to get lost inside.[2][3]
Spread
Online, SCP-3008 gained recognition one of more popular SCPs, with fan art, memes and a survival video game dedicated to it. Notable fanart of the SCP includes works done by artists FelipeY[4] and Will Burke[5], also known for his Creepy Garfield drawings.
In memes, SCP-3008 maintains moderate popularity in /r/DankMemesFromSite19 subreddit.[6]
SCP-3008 Game
On September 17st, 2017, video game developer N00MKRAD posted a YouTube video presenting a horror survival videogame based on the SCP.
On April 8th, 2019, N00MKRAD (Thaumiel Games) released version 0.6.1 of the game,[7] with SCP-3008 development still ongoing.
