Part of a series on Sherlock. [View Related Entries]

About

Sexually Oblivious Sherlock is an Advice Dog spin-off that features a picture of Benedict Cumberbatch as Sherlock Holmes, from the TV series Sherlock, looking confused. The text that accompanies the image plays off of Sherlock's lack of sexual interest by giving double entendres that are misinterpreted.

Origin

Within the series, Sherlock receives advances from a character named "Molly", who is a mortician at a local hospital. He usually shows indifference or ignorance in response, though it's uncertain whether he is aware of it. Because of this, many of the fans of the show have taken to poking fun at his seemingly ignorant stance on sexual or relational matters.

The template that is used in the series first appeared on Meme Generator[1] in March of 2010, and only gained moderate attention. The image of Cumberbatch used in the template comes from the second episode of the first season, "The Blind Baker":

Some examples dealt with other plot elements, but most examples that were generated played off of the above-mentioned sexual ignorance.

Spread

In October, 2011, a Tumblr titled "Not My Area"[2] was created that featured examples of this image macro. The site has since had over 50,000+ views and 1,000+ subscriptions. The image itself has grown in popularity, gaining in views and variations on Meme Generator.
