She Was A Fairy refers to a series of TikTok videos collected under an audio clip that says, "She was a fairy," set over a melody from the song "September" by Sparky Deathcap. After a young TikToker posted a fantasy roleplay video depicting herself as a fairy, various other TikTokers began using the sound to share their DIY fairy projects, which were often cursed, deformed or grotesque versions of children's toys.
Origin
On May 6th, 2023, TikToker[1] @fairyxg0ddess posted a video using music from the song "September" by Sparky Deathcap,[2] and the sound of a woman saying, "She was a fairy." The video obfuscated the TikToker's face and showed them role-playing as a fairy. the post gathered over 400,000 plays and 30,000 likes in two months (seen below, left). On June 24th, 2023, TikToker[3] @macsmissingeye posted a parody of the original video, showing a disheveled-looking Barbie doll wearing a Monster Energy can. The post gathered over 25 million plays and 5 million likes in a month (seen below, right).

On June 24th, 2023, TikToker[4] @charliismid_ posted a video of a Barbie in a Monster Energy can as well, gathering over 3 million plays and 600,000 likes in a month (seen below, left). On July 13th, 2023, TikToker[5] @topher.and.olivia posted a video using the sound and showing a children's baby doll attached to a water bottle. The post gathered over 11 million plays and 1.9 million likes in a week (seen below, right).

In July 2023, various TikTokers began using the sound to post videos that make it look as though they are levitating. TikToker[6] @josie.tuita posted one such video on July 19th, 2023, gathering over 6.8 million plays and 1.3 million likes in five days (seen below, left). On July 22nd, TikToker[7] @tinasnoww posted a clip performing the same trick, gathering over 2 million plays and 230,000 likes in two days (seen below, right). The trick is performed by wearing one's shoes around one's ankles such that they hang off one's heel, and standing on the edge of a raised platform, giving the illusion that you are floating.
