Sheriff Hopper Dancing refers to a series of remix videos in which people online overdub an infamous dance scene from Stranger Things season two with different music.

Origin

On October 27th, 2017, the second season of Stranger Things premiered on Netflix] In episode three, "Chapter Three: The Pollywog," the character Sheriff Hopper (David Harbour) dances to Jim Croce's "You Don't Mess Around" while cleaning his cabin with the character Eleven.

The following day, the official Stranger Things Twitter[2] account posted a gif of the moment with the caption "Do the Hopper." The post (shown below) received more than 15,000 retweets and 48,000 likes in less than two days.

The day after the shows premiere, on October 28th, the Twitter[2] account @hopperdancingto launched with a remix video of Hopper dancing to the Stranger Things theme song. Within two days, the tweet (shown below) received more than 700 retweets and 1,300 likes.




The following day, the account tweeted[4] a video of the moment remixed to Hall & Oates' "You Make My Dreams." Within 24 hours, the video (shown below) received more than 2,600 retweets and 7,300 likes.




That day, David Harbour, the actor who portrays Harbour on Stranger Things, tweeted[5] "Whoever created this account has won, not only the internet, but, yes, my stone cold heart. Thank you @hopperdancingto ❤️" The tweet (shown below) received more than 3,300 retweets and 15,000 likes in less than 24 hours.

Several news outlets, covered the emergence of the meme, including Polygon,[6] iO9,[7] Entertainment Weekly,[8] The Daily Dot[9] and more.
