Replicate Lambdal Pokémon Generator is an AI generator hosted on Replicate.com that creates hypothetical Pokémon based on prompts typed by users. The generator launched and began going viral in September of 2022.

History

The Lambdal Pokémon generator was created by Justin Pinkey[1] and launched on Replicate.com[2] on September 20th, 2022.

To use the site, a user need only put in a text prompt and the generator will create a Pokémon-like creature based on the input (for example, Pokémon generated by the prompt "Wojak" shown below).


Online Presence

The site began going viral on social media following a September 25th tweet by @JDune5[3] linking to the site. The tweet gained over 769 retweets, 11,000 quote-tweets, and 4,700 likes in two days (shown below).

Over the following two days, many Twitter users utilized the generator and posted the results they received. Oftentimes, users input their name, Twitter handle, or a noteworthy meme. For example, user @cianmaher8[4] posted the result of putting "Cian Maher" in the generator, gaining over 170 quote-tweets and 270 likes (shown below, left). User @gobbinjr420[5] posted the result of putting "Gobbin Jr" in the generator, gaining seven likes (shown below, right). On September 27th, the website was covered by Kotaku.[6]
